Citizens Advice Esher & District has just won a £2,500 donation from the Shanly Foundation to help with the cost of training volunteer advisers to be specialists in areas of high demand and to recruit and train new generalist advisers.
Chief Executive Linda Wheatley explained why such funding is so important:
“ There are certain issues that require more than our normal general advice service, broadly based on the principle of helping clients to help themselves. At present, disability benefits are top of that list and we are now offering a special service involving more time than we would normally expect to spend with each client to help them apply for, and retain, their benefits.
So we need to recruit new advisers to keep our team fully staffed. It costs £2,000 to recruit and train a new Citizens Advice adviser over the first two years, and this grant will help us to specialise in disability benefits whilst maintaining our general advice service.”
