National Insurance contributions reduction in the number of qualifying contribution years

National Insurance contributions

The new pensions bill reduces the number of qualifying contribution years for a full pension to 30, if you are due to reach retirement age on or after 6 April 2010. If you topped up your national insurance contributions on or after 25th May 2006 in order to ensure entitlement to a full stale retirement pension you may now be entitled to a refund if you would not have chosen to make the extra payments had you known of the government's intention to reduce the number of qualifying years. Further information will be available in due course.
